BASIC PURPOSE:

Performs assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities requiring application of standard techniques and procedures to carry out related Engineering tasks leading to accountability for the design, development, and evaluation of company products.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This is the entry level for a graduate Engineer with little or no work experience. He reports to the Assistant Chief Engineer. He may (and usually does) receive specific assignments from Project Engineers or Sr. Project Engineers.

Using prescribed methods he performs specific and limited portions of the broader assignment of a more experiences Engineer. In doing this, he prepares layouts and finished drawings, establishes materials, general specifications and manufacturing techniques to comply with specified standards, conferring with Draftsmen assigned to complete detail drawings and with shop personnel when problems within his area of responsibility arise. He reviews and approves and sometimes prepares finished shop drawings.

Supervisor screens assignments for unusual or difficulty problems and selects techniques and procedures to be applied on non-routine work. Supervisor confers frequently to assure correct methods are utilized.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Develop professional work knowledge and ability to apply sound Engineering principals in design of various components and products.
  2. Designs, develops and evaluates functional prototypes to conform to customer orders or assignments by his superiors. These may vary from piece parts to complete attachments requiring extensive research.
  3. Assures that projects assigned meet functional, esthetic, reliability, producibility and economic requirements.
  4. Provides functional supervision to technicians, shop personnel, and Draftsmen assigned to the implementation of projects.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

BS in Mechanical Engineering Preferred.
